Dubai air taxi: launch date, stations and fares

The airport to Palm Jumeirah in about 10 minutes, not 45. Where the four Dubai air taxi stations are and where the launch stands today.

Forty-five minutes from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah by car. About ten by air. That single comparison explains why Dubai wants to be the first city in the world with a commercial air taxi service, and why the launch is one of the most searched transport stories in the region.

Here is where things stand on 3 November 2026: the service has not opened to paying passengers yet, and the official target is still the end of this year.

Has the Dubai air taxi launched?

Not yet. Joby Aviation, the American company behind the service, is planning its first passenger operations before the end of 2026. The date has moved before: early reports pointed to the first half of the year.

The step that matters now is approval from the UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority. Joby has said it will carry passengers only after it meets every safety and certification requirement, including an Air Operator Certificate. In mid-October, a GCAA delegation visited Joby and Archer in California for technical sessions on certification and operations. No completion has been announced in the coverage we have seen.

Where are the stations?

The aircraft use small dedicated stations called vertiports. Four sites make up the first network:

  • Dubai International Airport (DXB), the hub of the network
  • Dubai Mall, in Downtown
  • Atlantis The Royal, on Palm Jumeirah
  • American University in Dubai, close to Dubai Marina and Internet City

Skyports Infrastructure is building them with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the property owners.

What is the aircraft like?

It looks closer to a small plane than a helicopter. It takes off and lands vertically on six electric propellers, then flies on like an aeroplane at up to 320 km/h (200 mph). It carries a pilot and four passengers. So despite the word "taxi", there will be a person at the controls.

Safety is built on redundancy. Each propeller has two inverters on separate circuits, and each circuit connects to a different battery pack, so a single failure does not stop the aircraft from flying. On 9 November 2025 a piloted aircraft flew from Joby's base at Margham to Al Maktoum International Airport in 17 minutes, the first point-to-point flight of its kind in the UAE.

How much will a ride cost?

Nobody can tell you yet. The RTA has said the fare is not final and that the service will start as a premium offer. Any exact figure you see online today is a guess. Joby's agreement gives it the exclusive right to run air taxis in Dubai for six years from the commercial launch, so its first fares will set the benchmark.

What it will not replace

Four stations and four seats make a remarkable shortcut, but the trip does not end at the vertiport. You still need to get from Atlantis The Royal to your villa, from Dubai Mall to your meeting, or out to Hatta for the day. And since it will start as a premium service, families with several suitcases will probably keep using the road for some time.

That is where we come in. Whether you land on a runway or a rooftop, our airport transfers and chauffeur service cover the rest of the journey, and if you would rather take the wheel, our luxury cars are delivered free anywhere in Dubai.
